PREEMO WORKSHOP SERIES

Whether you are an individual or a business, blogging is a great way of creating an online presence and becoming part of a community. If you've been thinking about starting a blog or are new to blogging and want to work on your writing skills, then this workshop is ideal for you.

Maria de los Angeles, award-winning freelance writer and blogger, will lead a three-hour blogging workshop on Saturday, August 7 at Preemo headquarters in South Miami.  The workshop will focus on content development and writing and is limited to 10 participants.

Each participant will have a phone consultation with Maria to assess individual needs.

LECTURE AND DISCUSSION

The workshop will include some or all of the following topics, depending on what the participants need to work on the most.

What the hell is a blog, anyway
To blog or not to blog
A look at successful blogs
Developing interesting content
Editorial focus
Telling a dynamic story
The all important first sentence
Editing for quality and length
Using the right words for better search engine results
Writer's block issues
Becoming part of a community
Supporting your blog with social media networks and platforms
Microblogging on Twitter
Any other topics suggested by workshop participants

EXERCISES

Participants will complete at least one short writing assignment during the workshop. Some participants may be asked to share what they've written during the workshop with the rest of the group.

The workshop is limited to 10 participants and will be followed by happy hour time with snacks and refreshments for those who wish to continue discussion and network. Registration and advanced payment is required at Eventbrite.  Full refund for cancellations 48 hours in advance; 50% refund thereafter.

WHAT TO BRING
A laptop is not required, but highly suggested. Pen and paper is ok, too!

Although our work will be focused and serious, we will enjoy a relaxed learning environment.  Come with a willingness to explore the potential of self-expression and the joy of creating.

ABOUT MARIA

Maria de los Angeles has been blogging for five years and writing professionally all her adult life. Currently, she authors her blog Sex and the Beach and is a senior writer at Miami Beach 411, where she also helps manage an online community.  Maria's past writing gigs have included columns at Miami New Times and City Link Magazine, as well as guest blog posts for Back in Skinny Jeans and corporate blogging at Obopay.  She has published work in several travel magazines, including Caribbean Travel and Life.  Maria taught composition and literature at the University of Miami, where she also tutored students at the Writing Center.  Maria has published poetry and prose in literary journals and regularly appears as a panelist, speaker and radio co-host on the topic of blogging and social media.
